Media Centre

The Neonatal Trust supports neonatal familiesWelcome to The Neonatal Trust Media Centre.

The Neonatal Trust is committed to working with all media (TV, radio, magazines, newspapers and online) across Aotearoa New Zealand to promote messages, stories and provide information and advice about neonatal-related matters.

Important notes:

  • Neonatal journeys are full of stress and anxiety. If contacting those who have been through a journey with a premature or sick full-term baby please keep this in mind with your approaches and questioning. As a result of their stressful journey, neonatal families are over-represented with postnatal depression and other conditions.
  • The Neonatal Trust cannot, and will not, give out personal contact details for families (surprisingly, we are asked often).
We can, however, look to approach parents on behalf of media to seek their interest in being involved in an awareness piece.
  • The Neonatal Trust has a policy of not making comment on clinical care provided to neonatal babies. This is an expert and complex field and not our place to comment.
We can, however, provide details on:
    • Comment on the world leading research being undertaken in New Zealand
Supporting neonatal research is one of our core objectives, as this provides for enhanced care of the precious and vulnerable babies, and increases the knowledge of the long term outcomes for neonatal babies
    • Provide examples of how neonatal families are supported, along with statistics and key information
    • Assist with images, quotes from parents, etc to add to awareness pieces being created

How we help

We provide our support in a range of different ways. Examples can be viewed in this gallery.
These fit with our three core objectives:

  1. The primary focus of The Neonatal Trust is supporting parents by helping them in whatever way we can to get through what is usually a very traumatic time. An example of this is our support material
  2. The second aim of the Trust is to assist the neonatal units in practical ways such as purchasing or contributing to the cost of equipment and funding for staff to attend neonatal educational seminars or other professional development
  3. The third aim of the Trust is to aid neonatal-related medical research. Learn more about this here.

Our support of neonatal families, and raising of awareness, is only possible through the support of the wonderful organsiations and individuals. If you are creating content about neonatal journeys and the world leading research and clincial care available in New Zealand, we'd love it if you would include a link to The Neonatal Trust. Examples of this could include:
