Development groups

The Neonatal Trust (Canterbury) runs a playgroup on the first Friday of each month for babies who have been through a NICU or SCBU unit.

It’s a safe and hazard free environment, appropriate for all children including babies from the time they go home from the unit, and is a great way to meet other families.

If your baby is well, you may come when you feel ready.

At these sessions, we:

  • provide toys in a baby friendly setting.  All toys are cleaned before and after every playgroup;
  • act as a social support group for parents;
  • parents are able to meet and chat with others who are going through similar experiences to themselves.  Stories, information, and helpful tips are shared over a relaxing coffee and morning tea; and
  • we end the playgroup with a music session with our qualified music teacher Jody Keehan, who has trained as a Premie Music Specialist with Julie Wylie at the Champion Centre here in Christchurch.

This play group is for any families that have spent time in a Neonatal Unit with either a sick or premature baby.  Read more about our playgroup here.

A gold coin donation is appreciated.
