The Neonatal Trust Parent Support Group (Taranaki) is located in New Plymouth and was started up in April 2013 by a couple of mothers with different neonatal experiences. Having realised how difficult this journey can be for many families they decided to get involved in any way they could to help make families’ journeys that little bit easier in the future. Some babies, depending on how premature or what complications they suffer, can be in the neonatal ward for months.
Through their time spent in the unit, the founders of the group realised there was no support network here in New Plymouth for parents. It also was apparent that the Taranaki NICU, which has more than 200 families admitted each year, was in desperate need of some help from the community. As a result, The Neonatal Trust Parent Support Group (Taranaki) was formed.
With the Taranaki catchment covering a large area, from Waverley to Awakino, some families are away from their loved ones as they try to continue work and life on the outside of the unit until their babies can come home. So we are trying to rally up as many volunteers around the Taranaki region to grow the support network and also gain sponsorship in order to continue to provide this ongoing support.
If you would like to contact a member of the Committee, please email us.

We are always looking for members of our local community to join us as committee members, special project coordinators and volunteers. If you are interested in becoming involved we would love to hear from you, so please contact us! Also we would love to hear from you if you have any feedback or ideas for the Taranaki region, so please do not hesitate to get in touch.
We look forward to hearing from anyone that is interested in supporting the work we do or from any neonatal family that would like to know more.
